now, we know that in guyana there are divisions. persons of fair skin are given more priority, more hope, more chance. this applies to foreigners and locals.

it is definitely not a good thing in any way. it causes differences, grudges and injustices; deprives many, satiates others; secures high places for some, keeps the proletariat suppressed.

foreigners come. their families live lavishly. at our expense.

on monday june 18, the guyana chronicle online reported the death of a canadian man, caucasian, named vasil 'vasco' nicolov. he dies in his "twin cab maroon pick-up" while his female friend was granted more life -- she is a patient of the georgetown hospital intensive care unit.

vasil nicolov.

"Nicolov's vehicle reportedly had a `blow-out' to his right rear wheel and this sent the vehicle careening into the culvert. It is believed that the vehicle was flung in the air as a result of the impact. It then `turned turtle' several times before it collided with an oncoming minibus. After that second collision, the top of the pick-up was flattened and windshield smashed."

this was a front-page, top-of-the-page story. to view a copy of it, click here.

a friend described nicolov as "bulgarian by birth, canadian by naturalisation and guyanese by choice". this is, of course, not a literal statement because, despite it alluding one to think that he gave up canandian citizenship to become a guyanese citizen, he was described earlier as a canadian citizen. so i wonder, what makes him "guyanese by choice"? exploitation for personal fulfillment? playing technological god to "the locals"? tell me.

two days later they wrote a story concerning a man being tragically electrocuted at his home. she witnessed her husband's death and now is left alone with three children. this woman's eyes convey the deepest adjectives of what pain is.

"He was barefoot, and by the time I went back with the lamp to get a (pair of) slippers and come back, I see he holding on to the wire shaking."

this story was given less priority, it was placed second to some trite article concerning the government and over 39 million dollars being wasted. to see a copy of this story, click here.

i have included links to copies of the articles. read them and you will see the difference. i have also included a screen shot of the guyana chronicle online page on the day of june 18, so you can see the priority given to the white man's death.

this may seem small, but it is a big difference. the placement of articles says a lot about a paper.

and now i could go on and on about a white man being given so much attention and unexplained love, while this woman, this strong guyanese woman is treated as a specimen, an example, a preventative case.

the tone of the two articles are very different. the canadian was cared for, the widow was stared at.

how much longer?

i do have compassion for the canadian's family, and i do feel sadness at the death of a human, but i am intolerant of what his people's presence does to guyana.

perhaps another example of the devasting division? mark vieira, of the vieira dynasty.
