it will be the one-year anniversary of guyanatruth in about one week. on 12 may 2002, guyanatruth found its place on the internet. actually, the struggle started about a year earlier. on 22 march 2001, guyanese in america are was started as an msn web community.

hopefully, guyanatruth has accomplished some of what it set out to do. the whole purpose of guyanatruth is still not clearly defined, but maybe there's nothing wrong with that. its purpose changes, is subjected to human feelings. one day, the aim may be to rally together guyanese, at home and abroad, for the betterment of guyana. other days, it's about expressing my personal disappointment and disapproval of the government's response to issues like the current crime wave that has resulted in so, so many guyanese slaughtered. on yet other days, guyanatruth is here to offer alternative ways of thinking, at least to let guyanese know that there are many other options in life than the obvious ones like the yankee accent in america, like consuming nike mindlessly without a sense of "why?", like believing the only way to be a successful guyanese is to get to america, like being passive and not active.

bush declared war in iraq over, but the us occupation continues. i feel proud to see my fellow world citizens demonstrating in iraq, expressing thanks to the us for toppling saddam, but absolute refusal to be colonised.

in case you didn't know, the us has been bombing afghanistan since the "war on terror" started in 2001. since the major media networks have not been focusing on this or calling it a war, don't be surprised if you didn't know.

during the iraq war and right now during the less publicised afghanistan war, i have asked myself which is more important--protesting against war, or working to unite guyanese. i concluded that war within or against any country is a global issue, and must be actively condemned. there can be no safe country as long as the us, or any nation, can wage war, for whatever cause, against any country; not in this age, not after all we've been through as humans.

there's been some positive news out of guyana. the president and pnc leader robert corbin have begun "constructive engagement", an event which is being called a landmark day in guyana's history. the pnc has discontinued its boycott of parliament. also, an ethnic relations commission (erc) has been established to investigate and work on curing the infected racial relationships in guyana. the whole system is still flawed, but if these happenings can bring a better state of life to guyanese, then they should be supported.

i encourage you to search out the truth. visit the links page to be pointed to some sites that report the rest of the truths that cnn and fox conveniently ignore.

one year ago from tomorrow, guyanatruth was established; a day of personal triumph for me.

twenty-two years ago from this day, on 11 may 1981, bob marley died at age 36. though i was not alive then, it's a day of bitterness for me.

two days of opposite emotions, back to back.

looking back at guyanatruth's first year, i am able to point out a few accomplishments. the most significant of these are document by the e-mails i've received, e-mails from people who were somehow touched by guyanatruth, many of whom agree that the truth should be disseminated among all guyanese.

with so many horrible things happening in guyana over the past year, i have questioned the importance of guyanatruth. i could see myself doing more for guyana if i were there. i have accepted that i'm not in guyana, and won't be there for a while--this is my sacrifice. however, i can still use guyanatruth as a medium to call on and inspire guyanese at home and abroad to confront issues that are normally considered taboo.

i remember that the first of these taboo issues was the way guyanese behaved in america--acting american like they are paid to do so. i wanted to try and discuss the matter with other guyanese, because i felt, and i still feel, that this culture disguise goes deeper than merely trying to fit in. i believe this behaviour is the result of us being programmed as inferior beings over our history as guyanese, as west indians.

more issues have been discussed, and more will be discussed.

because i'm a college student (as mentioned in the 'me, myself and i' section), i won't always be able to give guyanatruth a lot of time. there are issues that have been listed as the ones that guyanatruth targets, and there are to be writings on these issues, but there have only been one writing on one of these issues so far. i am aware of this. this is the direct result of me having to attend school, and therefore not always having a lot of time to concentrate on guyanatruth.

after the tests are finished, guyanatruth will receive much more attention.

guyanatruth cannot survive without you: the guyanese reading this right now. contribute to guyanatruth and help it grow into an online community where guyanese issues will be explored, where guyanese will share experiences that will make us all stronger, where we can share knowledge among each other and make ourselves more educated and prepared to develop our country, where the hidden truth will be revealed, where...and the ideals go on.

seek the truth, spread the truth.
