Hi, I'm a Guyanese teenager born in America. In your words I'm not expected to be 100% Guyanese...I've already acknowledged this and have come to accept it as the truth, however it is all the more reason for me to trace my roots and find out how all of my story and our country's story began...I've worked so hard on finding the answers, but there's only so much written. First off, I commend you on your site, you have put into words what I have felt for so long. As you are angry and frustrated, so am I. I've seen how Guyanese youth act and how they are thought of in this society. I was raised to have respect for myself and the people around me. What I see from some Guyanese contradicts my whole belief system. I was not offended by your site, as so many people were, because I knew who you were referring to. We as a people, as a nation, should set a better example. We are all, truthfully, representatives of our culture, of our nation, of our families and beliefs...if one person shows the world that we are ignorant conformists, worthy of suppression...then we truly are these things...
The world IS a sad place, but through each one of us, through our own efforts, as humans, it can be better...
Thank you for simply stating the truth...
LISA

a reply to the above.

hello,
thank you very much for your letter. it has been fuel for me, and i greatly appreciate it. it is very comforting to know that, even at the most discouraged of times, there are persons who share the belief of righteous and moralistic representation for guyana.
please excuse the stale atmosphere of the site. i am currently working on the new site, which will be located at http://guyanatruth.tripod.com. this site will not only address guyanese in america but, in general, issues that are not given much attention elsewhere. after the technical part of the new site is finished, or rather; given the first push, it should be easily maintained, and so focus can be given to the target issues, which will be clearly defined.
the new web site opens on 12th may. in addition to more technical advantages at this new site, the content will be increased. visitors are given as many means to participate as possible. i would be pleasured to have you visit this new site.
again, thank you for the thoughtful words.

the manager,
guyanese in america are.
