a response to this.

G.U.M.,

How could the army be the right tool for the job? The army is not qualified to do the police’s job. They were trained in two very different ways—that’s why we call one group the police and the other ‘the army’. One is for national defense, the other, local. You cannot put the army to do the police’s job. That would be illogical and non-sensical. Why? Because what will the army do without any knowledge of the criminals, their where about, or any contacts to lead them to the criminals? The police are the only ones fit for this job. That is why we have them. If they cannot do the job, or rather, are just plain lazy and corrupt (some, that is) we need to get rid of them. But we also need to dispatch more police all over. And I do mean all over. The police hardly get paid. I know that shouldn’t be an excuse, but not everyone thinks the same and I’ve seen police act like criminals. Not a pleasant sight. Nevertheless, we need to put our faith in the ones that are capable and are trying. We need to pay the police more and have them work overtime for more money. Have them work throughout the nights—in every location. The mere sight of the police should scare the criminals. And as the investigation is going on to find these cold-blooded beasts, the place will be safer. Eventually, the criminals will be stopped. There is no need to call the army. That will possibly cause chaos—the mere sight of them will imbue in the Guyanese soul that we are fighting a war and them replacing the police… will put the police out of jobs. All we need are our good old friendly police officer to hang about at more locations and patrol. That’s all. Criminals will most likely not want to risk it in such a police filled environment. The army, again, is unnecessary.

The only thing I can suggest is that he police ask for more manpower, more aid. But you cannot have the army dominate the scene—they are not educated in matters such as these—local. We need the police

a reply to the above.

hello,
ok, well you feel that the army should not be called in, and i think they should.
i do feel that the police force needs improvement, but in the time it takes to implement changes, more people may be dead. i feel the army will arrive on the scene faster and, using information from the police, swiftly capture the criminals.
